The chessboard remains the center. Live video appears as compact player avatars, so the game feels personal without becoming a video meeting.

Chess with webcam reactions

See the thinking, pauses, smiles, and tension that normal online chess hides.

Meet real opponents

Join random matchmaking, play face-to-face, and turn an enjoyable game into a Connection.

Rematches and room history

Play sequential games with clocks, colors, PGN downloads, stats, and history in the same room.

How video chess works

Meet, play, react, and connect around one board.

Start with random matchmaking when you want to meet someone new, or open a private room when you already know your opponent. In both cases the chessboard, clock, camera, microphone, chat, and match history stay together, and a good random game can become a Connection for later.

1

Find someone new

Enter random matchmaking and meet another adult-confirmed player who wants a face-to-face game.

2

Play with real presence

Use voice and optional live video while the board and clocks remain central.

3

Connect after the game

Enjoyed the match? Send a Connection request so the opponent does not disappear into a username list.

4

Challenge them again

See when a connection is online and invite them back for another game.

Common questions

What is video chess?

Video chess is online chess played with live camera or voice, so players can see and hear each other while using a real chessboard and clock.

Does ChessTV upload or store my video?

ChessTV transmits live media for the room experience and does not routinely record or store complete sessions. If a player submits a safety report, one limited still frame of the reported player may be stored as restricted moderation evidence.

Who can use random video matchmaking?

Random video matchmaking is available to users who complete the one-time self-declared confirmation that they are 18 or older. Private rooms are not subject to that specific confirmation.

Can I play video chess with someone new?

Yes. Random video matchmaking pairs eligible adult-confirmed users for a face-to-face game. You can connect afterward if you both want to play again.
