Terms and Conditions

These terms explain the rules for using ChessTV accounts, matchmaking, live video chess, social and safety features, games, and subscriptions.

Effective date: August 22, 2026

Live video chess

Use random matchmaking or private rooms with live video, voice, chat, clocks, and game history.

Free Tier and Pro

The Free Tier includes a daily game allowance. ChessTV Pro provides unlimited games while active.

Respectful play

Users must keep video, chat, account, and game behavior lawful and respectful.

1. Acceptance of terms

These Terms and Conditions ("Terms") govern your use of ChessTV.com ("ChessTV", "we", or "our"). By creating an account, joining a room, creating a room, subscribing, or using the platform, you agree to these Terms.

Our Privacy Policy explains how personal data is processed and forms part of the information provided when you register. If you do not agree to these Terms, do not create an account or use ChessTV.

2. Use of the platform

ChessTV provides online chess features including random video matchmaking, private rooms, invite links, face-to-face video and voice, chessboard play, clocks, chat, challenges, Connections, rematches, game history, player profiles, rankings, federation pages, and news.

You may use ChessTV only for lawful purposes and in accordance with these Terms.

3. User accounts

You need a ChessTV account to use interactive play and social features. You are responsible for your credentials and for activity performed through your account.

  • Provide accurate and complete registration information.
  • Keep your login credentials secure.
  • Do not share, sell, or transfer your account.
  • Notify us if you believe your account has been compromised.
  • Choose a permitted username and do not impersonate another person or organization.
  • We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms.

4. Random matchmaking and age confirmation

Random video matchmaking is available only to users who self-declare that they are 18 years or older. Before entering the queue, you must truthfully confirm that you meet this requirement. This is an age confirmation and is not identity or age verification. We do not request your date of birth solely for this confirmation.

The restriction applies specifically to random video matchmaking. We may refuse or remove matchmaking access when the confirmation is missing, false, withdrawn, or otherwise invalid, or where required for safety or legal compliance.

5. Rooms, live media, chat, and games

Private rooms are assigned to their creator and guest. Eligible participants receive access to live media, chess, chat, clocks, game offers, room history, and related controls. Either participant may propose another game, subject to acceptance, availability, and applicable account limits.

Live video and audio are transmitted between participants to provide face-to-face chess. Complete sessions are not routinely recorded or stored, but limited technical connection data may be processed and a report may include one still video frame as described below.

You are responsible for what you say, show, send, or do through video, microphone, chat, profile information, games, reports, and other interactive features.

  • Do not harass, bully, threaten, stalk, impersonate, exploit, or abuse another person.
  • Do not display or share illegal, hateful, sexually explicit, violent, fraudulent, or otherwise harmful content.
  • Do not expose another person’s private information or image without lawful authority.
  • Do not cheat, manipulate results or clocks, collude, or use unauthorized assistance during games.
  • Do not attempt to disrupt games, rooms, signaling, clocks, chat, or platform infrastructure.
  • Do not use bots, scraping, automation, or reverse engineering without permission.

6. Connections, challenges, and profiles

Connections and challenges help players find and play each other again. Requests are visible to the relevant users, may be accepted, declined, cancelled, expired, or removed, and remain subject to availability, blocking, safety rules, and game limits.

Public player profiles may display your username, profile image, country where provided, join information, and game statistics. Do not upload an image or choose profile information that you do not have the right to use.

7. Reporting, blocking, and enforcement

You can block or report players through available safety controls. A submitted report also blocks the reported player and may end or revoke access to the shared room or interaction.

When a report is confirmed from a shared video room, ChessTV may capture and securely store one still frame from the reported player’s displayed video for moderation, investigation, enforcement, safety, or legal purposes. This does not include audio and is not continuous recording. Reports and evidence are restricted as described in the Privacy Policy.

Do not knowingly submit false, misleading, retaliatory, or abusive reports. We may investigate conduct and take proportionate action, including warnings, feature restrictions, matchmaking removal, room eviction, suspension, or account termination.

8. Free Tier, subscriptions, and billing

ChessTV offers a permanent Free Tier and may offer paid plans. The Free Tier currently includes private-room creation, Connections, and a daily game allowance shown in the service. A successfully created game counts toward the allowance of each participating Free Tier player, regardless of who proposed, accepted, or initiated it. ChessTV Pro provides unlimited game access while the subscription is active.

We may change plan features, prices, or usage limits prospectively. Where a change materially affects an active paid subscription, we will provide notice as required by applicable law.

  • Payments are processed securely through Stripe.
  • By subscribing, you authorize recurring billing for the selected plan until cancellation.
  • You can cancel your subscription at any time.
  • After cancellation, access may continue until the end of the current billing period.
  • Refund eligibility is governed by the offer shown at checkout and applicable law; nothing in these Terms limits mandatory consumer rights.

9. Content and intellectual property

ChessTV owns or licenses the platform design, code, branding, text, graphics, and other site content. You may not copy, redistribute, or reuse ChessTV materials without permission except as allowed by law.

You retain rights in content you submit. You grant ChessTV a non-exclusive, worldwide license to host, transmit, reproduce, display, process, moderate, and otherwise use that content only as needed to operate, secure, improve, and enforce the service, comply with law, and exercise or defend legal claims. This license ends when the content is deleted except where continued retention is permitted under the Privacy Policy or applicable law.

10. Availability and service changes

ChessTV is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis. We work to keep the service reliable, but we do not guarantee uninterrupted access, error-free operation, or compatibility with every network, device, browser, camera, or microphone.

We may maintain, change, suspend, or discontinue features where reasonably necessary for operation, security, compliance, or product development. We are not responsible for the conduct of other users, but this does not affect obligations or rights that cannot lawfully be excluded.

11. Disclaimers and liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, ChessTV is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages resulting from your use of the platform. Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability that cannot legally be excluded or limited, including mandatory consumer rights.

12. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms as the service or legal requirements change. Updated Terms and their effective date will be posted on this page, and we will provide additional notice where appropriate. If applicable law requires renewed acceptance, we will request it before continued use of the affected service.
