1. Who is responsible for your data?
ChessTV.com ("ChessTV") is responsible for processing personal data connected to your ChessTV account and use of the platform.
For privacy inquiries, contact us at support@chesstv.com.
2. Data we collect
We collect and process the information needed to create and secure accounts, provide chess and social features, process subscriptions, enforce platform rules, and improve reliability.
- Account registration and login data, including username, email address, encrypted password, country, and OAuth details when you sign in with Google.
- Profile data such as username, country, and an uploaded or Google-provided profile image. Profile images are stored and displayed as part of the public player profile.
- Room and game data such as room code, membership, join requests, game offers, moves, clocks, results, chat messages, and room history.
- Connection requests and accepted connection relationships, which are stored and visible to the users involved.
- Random-matchmaking data, including queue participation and the account and profile information needed to create a match.
- Website access and technical data such as IP address, browser type, device information, logs, and security events.
3. Random matchmaking and 18+ confirmation
Random video matchmaking is available only to users who self-declare that they are 18 years or older. We store whether the account made this confirmation and the date and time it was made so we can apply the restriction without asking during every session.
This is an age confirmation, not identity or age verification. We do not collect a date of birth solely for random-matchmaking eligibility. Private and invite rooms are not subject to this specific confirmation.
When matched, players can see the account and profile information needed for the interaction, such as username and profile image, and can receive each other’s live video and audio while the feature is active.
4. Live video and audio
ChessTV transmits live camera and microphone data between room participants to provide video chess. We also process technical connection data, including WebRTC signaling, ICE configuration, connection state, and limited diagnostics needed to establish, secure, and troubleshoot the session.
ChessTV does not routinely record or store complete video or audio sessions. Live media may pass through service infrastructure when a direct connection is unavailable. A limited still frame may be captured only when a user submits a report, as explained below.
5. Reports, blocking, and moderation evidence
When you block or report another player, we may store the involved account identifiers, report category and description, block relationship, relevant room, game or match information, timestamps, review status, moderator notes, and actions taken. We use this information to protect users, investigate abuse, enforce our rules, prevent repeated misuse, and establish or defend legal claims.
When a report is confirmed from a shared video room, ChessTV may capture and store one limited image frame from the reported player’s video as evidence. This is not continuous recording, does not include audio, and is used only for safety, moderation, and investigation. A report can still be submitted when no frame is available.
Reports and moderation evidence are not public. Access is restricted to authorized personnel and service providers who need it for moderation, security, legal, or technical-support purposes and are subject to appropriate confidentiality and access controls.
7. Service providers and data sharing
We share personal data only as needed to operate ChessTV, complete transactions, protect the platform, comply with law, or with your direction. Providers process data under their own terms and/or contractual data-protection obligations, depending on their role.
- Amazon Web Services (AWS) provides cloud hosting and private storage, including restricted moderation evidence storage.
- Stripe processes subscription checkout, billing, payment, fraud-prevention, and applicable tax information. ChessTV does not receive your complete card number.
- Google processes information when you choose Google Sign-In and when Google security services such as reCAPTCHA are used.
- Image-hosting and delivery providers, including Cloudinary where used, store and deliver uploaded profile images.
- Infrastructure, communications, security, and technical-support providers may process limited data needed to perform their services.
8. International data transfers
Our providers may process personal data in countries outside your country of residence, including outside the European Economic Area. Where data-protection law requires it, we rely on recognized safeguards such as an adequacy decision, the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses, and supplementary technical and organizational measures where appropriate.
9. Legal bases for processing
Where the GDPR applies, the legal basis depends on why the information is used.
- Performance of a contract: providing accounts, profiles, matchmaking, rooms, games, live media, connections, subscriptions, and support requested by you.
- Legitimate interests: platform security, fraud and abuse prevention, moderation, service reliability, product improvement, and protecting ChessTV and its users, balanced against your rights and interests.
- Legal obligations: payment, tax, accounting, responding to valid legal requests, and other compliance duties.
- Consent: non-essential analytics or similar optional processing where consent is requested. You may withdraw consent at any time without affecting earlier lawful processing.
10. Retention and account deletion
Account and profile information is generally kept while your account remains active. Room, game, connection, and communication records are kept for as long as needed to provide history and social features, maintain service integrity, resolve disputes, and meet security or legal requirements.
Reports, blocks, and moderation evidence are retained only for as long as reasonably necessary for review, enforcement, repeat-abuse prevention, legal claims, and applicable legal obligations. Retention depends on factors such as the severity of the report, whether an investigation or restriction remains active, repeat-abuse risk, and relevant limitation or statutory periods. Evidence that is no longer needed is deleted or anonymized in accordance with our retention process; it is not kept indefinitely by default.
If you request account deletion, we delete or anonymize personal data that is no longer needed. We may retain limited records where required by law or reasonably necessary for fraud prevention, platform safety, dispute resolution, accounting, or legal claims. Some game records may remain in anonymized form to preserve the integrity of other players’ histories.
11. Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures designed to protect personal data, including access controls, authentication, encryption in transit where appropriate, restricted evidence storage, monitoring, and limiting access according to role and need. No online service can guarantee absolute security.
12. Children and age rules
Random video matchmaking is currently available only to account holders who self-declare that they are 18 years or older. We do not treat this checkbox as verified proof of age and do not collect a date of birth solely for this purpose.
If you believe a minor is using an age-restricted feature or personal data relating to a child has been provided improperly, contact support@chesstv.com so we can review the situation and take appropriate action.
13. Your privacy rights
Depending on your location and applicable law, you may have the rights listed below. Contact support@chesstv.com and describe your request. We may need to verify your identity before fulfilling it, and legal exceptions may apply.
- Access personal data we hold about you and receive related information.
- Correct inaccurate or incomplete personal data.

We may update this Privacy Policy as ChessTV changes or legal requirements evolve. We will update the date on this page and provide additional notice where appropriate.
If you believe your data has been mishandled, please contact us. You also have the right to complain to the data-protection supervisory authority in the country where you live or work, or where you believe an infringement occurred.
